This painting, simply entitled Giverny, depicts a landscape of refined colours in a unique and impressive presentation which is considered a rare insight into the most sought-after period of the artist’s work just before 1900. At that time, Radimský was already a fully respected and established painter in France, who had spent his time in Barbizon, extensively collaborated with Claude Monet in Giverny, and was even a gold medallist at the Salon in Paris. With immense diligence using a demanding impressionist technique of individual short strokes, Radimský managed to capture the inner vibration of every square centimetre of the painted canvas with brilliance and swing. He even almost captured the unmistakable heavy scent, always accompanying the sun soaked haymaking in August. In contrast to the usually preferred shades of green and blue, the artist has opted for a much more straightforward palette using mainly yellow, which is locally refined with other contrasting colours. Being knowledgeable in French models, he also paid attention to a faithful caption of the airy atmosphere, which became almost tangible. In addition, he did not forget about the light, which allows the painting to shine as if on its own, without the need for external light sources. The dimensions within the composition are precisely and clearly defined by several main axes, as is typical for this artist. However, this does not detract from the authentic experience of a particular landscape. This artwork of undeniable quality can thus compete very well with the best period paintings. It undoubtedly deserves the attention of every true art lover and it would have an honorary place in any high-quality art collection. Assessed during consultations by prof. J. Zemina and Mgr. M. Dospěl, Ph.D. The expertise by Mgr. P. Kubík is attached.
