KODL gallery - more than a century old family collecting tradition

We focuse on the purchase and sale of paintings, drawings, graphics and sculptures of Czech fine art of the 19th and 20th centuries. We also provide expert consultations, authorized reports and expertises, restoration or framing of paintings.

We take pride not only in guaranteeing the works of art it sells, but also on its professional approach. At the head of a top team of experts and art historians is the current owner, authorized expert PhDr. Martin Kodl, representing the fourth generation of this family tradition.

Auctions

Twice a year we organize renowned auction days in the Great Hall of Prague's Žofín, which are preceded by a pre-auction exhibition at the gallery's headquarters. These auctions are always the artistic event of the year on the Czech market.

Auction records

The May auction in 2022 has become the most successful in the Czech Republic so far. For the first time, the threshold of 18 million euros auctioned in one auction was reached.

At the 86th and 87th auctions, 100% of the items offered were sold.

In 2021, the turnover of two KODL Gallery auctions represented more than 48% of the total sales of all auctions in the Czech Republic. The gallery thus confirmed its exceptional position.

For ten years now, the gallery has been the most successful auction house in the Czech Republic in all numbers.

Over the past thirty years, works of art worth almost 500 million euros have been sold in the gallery.

At our 87th auction in 2022, the most expensive painting in the history of the Czech Republic, "Old Prague Motif" by Bohumil Kubišta, was sold for 5 million euros. The previous record belonged to the work "Divertimento II" by František Kupka, which was auctioned for 3,7 million euros at the KODL Gallery auction in 2020.

The gallery remains faithful to its traditional focus on Czech fine art. At the same time, it expands and deepens active cooperation with foreign auction houses and private galleries in Europe and the USA. With its orientation, it strives for greater visibility of Czech art beyond the borders of the Czech Republic.
